This post is off snow topic but ten year old Allan Ssematya lives far from the snow, in Uganda on the African continent and he needs our help. Warning: this post contains both graphic information and links to graphic content.
As reported in the Sydney Morning Herald on December 29, 2012, Allan is one of Uganda’s few survivors of child sacrifice and needs surgery.
In 2009 Allan was seven and had his skull ripped open by the heavy blow of an axe by a witch doctor. He suffered a deep stab wound to the neck, and was castrated. He was found lying in a pool of blood and was in a coma for a month and suffered a stroke.
In order to survive a full life Allan needs a new skull and Australian surgeons are helping. The John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle has donated their surgical theatre to help Allan and Australia’s leading neurosurgeon, Dr Charlie Teo, has also offered his services.
He (George) was aged just two, playing football with his brothers, when a neighbour, John Otebati, offered to take him into town for sweets. Instead, Otebati, a witch doctor, took him to a nearby banana plantation and removed his genitals with a knife. Sydney Morning Herald
This is not the first time Australian surgeons have helped victims of attempted child sacrifice. As also reported in the Sydney Morning Herald in May 2012, six year old George Mukisa was “genitally mutilated during an attack in 2009, flew to Australia where two Brisbane surgeons performed life-changing surgery to re-route his urethra.”
While George has returned to Uganda in full health, Allan still bears his scars. Allan’s father was forced to sell his home and move to the slums of the nation’s capital in order to pay for Allan’s medical treatment. The Kyampisis Childcare Ministries, KCM, set up by former Uganda national soccer team member, Pastor Peter Sewakiryanga, have since built Allan’s family a new house.
But we still need funds to bring Allan and his guardians to Australia for surgery (see below on how to help).
Child sacrifice is a brutal subject. The BBC have consistently reported on this barbaric practice and alerted Ugandan police on numerous occasions. They have created an award winning documentary (below) on this relatively recent phenomenon and even posed as businessmen looking for prosperity for their construction business in order to speak to a witch doctor who openly offers them children’s body parts to ensure luck for their business.
“There are two ways of doing this,” he (witch doctor) said. “We can bury the child alive on your construction site, or we cut them in different places and put their blood in a bottle of spiritual medicine.” Awali grabbed his throat. “If it’s a male, the whole head is cut off and his genitals. We will dig a hole at your construction site, and also bury the feet and the hands and put them all together in the hole.” Read more on the BBC website.
Child sacrifice is a human issue and no matter what or who you do or don’t believe in the sacrifice of children for supposed prosperity or good health of an adult is truly unbelievable.
HOW WE CAN HELP
The cost of Allan’s flights to Australia for himself and his two guardians including Peter Sewakiryanga is $8200. If eighty two people sacrifice one day’s skiing and donate $100 (less than a one day lift pass in Australia this season) each then Allan can make it to Australia.
You can make a one off donation of any amount to Kyampisi Childcare Ministries to help contribute to Allan’s flights by online transfer to the following Commonwealth Bank Account:
If you would prefer to speak with Peter Sewakiryanga please also email me and I will put you in touch.
Allan has been robbed of his childhood, let’s help give it back.
