With digital photography the whole world has suddenly become a snow photographer. You may have an eye, a DSLR and access to photoshop but it doesn’t mean you’ll get published, and no, Facebook doesn’t count.
I often get to travel with photographers and pro athletes and watch them both work. It is easy to tell the elite from the good. Some photographers have to take thousands of images to get one good one, others take a mere few hundred. The good ones know how, or rather when, to hang out of a helicopter, work with the light and get the most from their subjects.
Cinematographer for Warren Miller, Tom Day, takes a good pic. So does Armada skis founder, Chris O’Connell and Jordan Manley has made his mark young. There are some Aussie and Kiwi snappers making their own mark. Jake McBride recently returned from years in New York is back on the Aussie snow scene, Dan Himbrechts knows how to shoot a snowboard, honourary kiwi Camilla Stoddart is mighty sweet with a shutter. Aussie living in Whistler, Vince Shuley, is slowly getting his work heard.
Who is your favourite snow photographer? Which photographer gets you gee’d up good and ready for the snow?
